19 August

Chapter 8 con't.
Mina Murray's Journal

19 August—Joy, joy, joy! Although not all joy. At last, news of Jonathan. The dear fellow has been ill, that is why he did not write. I am not afraid to think it or to say it, now that I know. Mr. Hawkins sent me on the letter, and wrote himself, oh so kindly. I am to leave in the morning and go over to Jonathan, and to help to nurse him if necessary, and to bring him home. Mr. Hawkins says it would not be a bad thing if we were to be married out there. I have cried over the good Sister's letter till I can feel it wet against my bosom, where it lies. It is of Jonathan, and must be near my heart, for he is in my heart. My journey is all mapped out, and my luggage ready. I am only taking one change of dress. Lucy will bring my trunk to London and keep it till I send for it, for it may be that… I must write no more. I must keep it to say to Jonathan, my husband. The letter that he has seen and touched must comfort me till we meet.

Mina's interference seems to have been the only thing standing between Lucy and the Count. Now that she's away... I haven't noticed this unfortunate coincidence earlier.

Shouldn't the August 12th letter from Sister Agatha be inserted here on this day?

Our last sight of Jonathan was June 30, so it's been almost two months since his took his fateful step.

@David,
no the August 12 letter from Sister Agatha should have been published on August 12. And when typing it up I transposed the date and it was instead scheduled to be posted on August 21. So thanks for catching this error, I've corrected it and inserted the post in the timeline. But now you maybe see how easy it is to get mixed up when publishing these entries -- the dates skip around so much both in and between chapters.

For those of you confused by this thread... between the two 19 August entries in Chapter 8 of the novel appeared a letter from Sister Agatha dated 12 August. As we are reading things in "real time" you get the letter on the date it was written (in an ideal world where I didn't screw it up, that is.) Hope that maybe clears things up slightly. And perhaps explains why one day you read an entry from Chapter 9 and the next day an entry from Chapter 8.
