Dracula Begins

Experience Bram Stoker's Dracula in a new way -- in real time. Dracula is an epistolary novel (a novel written as a series of letters or diary entries,) and this blog will publish each diary entry on the day that it was written by the narrator so that the audience may experience the drama as the characters would have. Please subscribe to the RSS feed so that you don't miss any installments!

This is a wonderful idea and I'm really looking forward to the feeds. I'm also digging my Annotated Dracula and will track through it with the feeds. Thanks for this great reading adventure!

Amazing idea, but reading long samples of text on a black background is torture...

I guess I'll read it on my rss feed ;)

What a wonderful idea! I'd always meant to read this. Thanks for inspiring me to do so now! I'll look forward to checking in every day (and I didn't have a problem with the white text on black at all). Thanks for doing this!

This really IS great. However, the black background and white text makes it very hard for me, too, to read. I hope it comes through on the RSS feed, cos my eyes have 'stars' in front of them after reading the first installment. Still, this is a brilliant idea.

YIPPPEEE!!!!! :D Always wanted some real-time stories.. :D hehehe!!

I agree with Carlos Mal & Carolina, my eyes hurt and my comp shows black deeper than necessary,, :)

P.S: You have a stalker now :P hehehehe!

Hello there!

This is SUCH a great idea for a blog. And I've never read Dracula, so this will be fun! :) Will be Twittering as well as subscribing to the feed. :)

(also, I'm one of Adam's housemates, so you can thank him for pointing me this way) :)

Great Idea!
May I suggest that you name each post by data/location (as in the book)?

I don't understand how this helps me experience the drama as the characters would have.

Is that because I have to wait the actual amount of time between entries? But that doesn't help me experience the drama as Jonathan Harker did. The entries are written on a specific date, but their content spans over a series of events that occurred since the last entry.

Also, any other characters would most likely be reading the diary after the conclusion of events, much like you do when you just read the book.

I can give you correspondence - you have to wait just like the characters do, but the bulk of the novel is the journal.

I'm glad people want to read this book and all, but you know, I'm not really getting the point here.

I saw this on Ars Technica and decided to check it out. Dracula is one of those novels that I always wanted to read but never had time. Perhaps by breaking it up into a daily blog will be a good way to finish it.

Thanks so much. Good Luck. I look forward to reading it ^^

I've gotta say on the whole I agree with Todd here although I'm glad that it may help this fantastic novel reach an audience it may not have otherwise.

Hi there!

What an interesting idea you've had! I read Dracula years and years ago, and this seems like a great way to read it again, yet differently!

I'll be following closely.

Cheers!
